Laser Photonics
Laser Photonics Overview
Sciperio is lighting the way for tomorrow's laser discoveries.
Since the discovery of lasers in the 1960's, laser development and applications continue to grow in number and variety. Scientific and technological advances have brought corresponding improvements in unit size, efficiency, ruggedness, and cost. Lasers are used for measuring, sensing, cutting, welding, illuminating, communicating, and processing, to name a few of the applications. At Sciperio, a wide range of laser development is taking place, from creating new fiber lasers to sensing applications using these lasers.
Solid-state lasers have been and will be the next major contributor in high-power, diffraction-limited output. While these lasers are showing vast improvements in all areas, revolutionary contributions still will be required to make a small, compact, portable, stable, and durable laser with extremely high output power. Sciperio is currently working on techniques to increase significantly the power density in fiber lasers, while maintaining the characteristics and advantages of single- mode output. Extreme power output from a fiber laser is the ultimate goal with both average and continuous-wave power exceeding many kilowatts from a super-single-mode fiber.
